Governor Granholm announced in the 2007 State of the State Address the new No Worker Left Behind (NWLB) Program.  This  plan will help more than 100,000 displaced workers by:

To qualify for the NWLB program, displaced workers will need to take a skills assessment test administered by Michigan Works! Agencies (MWAs). Qualifying workers must pursue an associate's degree or attend a technical training program in a high-demand occupation, emerging industry, or entrepreneurship program. High-demand occupations vary from region to region, however some common examples include health care, accounting and bookkeeping services, information technology, auto service technicians and mechanics.  Click here for more information

  • A word from one of our www.battlecreekdiversity.com readers,

I wanted to let you know that I very much appreciate the resource that you are providing to Battle Creek and the surrounding areas.   The area that is devoted to educational resources is especially important.  Just yesturday I spoke with a young woman from Battle Creek who has struggled for the past five years to complete her associates degree.  She did not realize that she qualified for financial aid and never applied for any.  We spoke about several resources and hopefully this semester she will recieve the financial aid that she needs to finish.  One of the resources that we spoke of that most community members seem to be unaware of is Michigans Tuition Incentive Program (TIP).  All Michigan residents qualify for this state grant program if they have had Medicaid for 24 months and graduate from high school with adiploma or GED before their 20th birthday.  Typically the state will send qualifying families a letter telling them that they are able to receive the grant, however if the student moves they never receive the notice that could be recieving free tuition at many local colleges and universities.  If an individual wants to find out if they qualify for the free tuition grant they should go to
